Michael Rogers Named CEO of CAPUP

Capital Area Partnership Uplifting People (CAPUP) has appointed Michael Rogers as the organization's new President.

"We are thrilled to welcome Michael as CAPUP's next President," said Tabitha Taylor, Chairperson of the Board of Directors. "His proven leadership experience, passion for service, and commitment to empowering underserved communities make him exceptionally qualified to guide our organization into the future."

Rogers most recently served as Programs Director at Homeward here in Richmond, leading a team that oversaw the regional homeless response network's operations, funding programs, policy development, and access to housing services. Prior to that, Rogers held roles as Director of Mission Advancement and Community Engagement Manager at Homeward.

"I'm honored and excited to join the CAPUP team in its vital work of strengthening communities and creating pathways to self-sufficiency," said Rogers. "Together we will build on CAPUP's legacy of service to uplift even more families and individuals throughout the region."

Rogers assumes the presidency on August 15, 2024. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Urban Planning from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Additionally, he served on the board of directors for Henrico Community Food Bank and was a member of the Emerging Nonprofit Leaders Program of Richmond.

Formerly known as the Richmond Community Action Program (RCAP), CAPUP was created under the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 as a major component of the Johnson Administration's War on Poverty. Acting with community support, CAPUP operates a Food Pantry, Utility Assistance Programs, Senior Independence Programs, a Project Discovery Program, a Child Care Food Program, a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program Site, a Job Readiness Training Program, and other projects and programs that serve residents seeking to improve their quality of life.
