Alert: SNAP Benefit Changes

The SNAP Work Requirement has changed effective September 1, 2023. Many people are unaware that The Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023, signed in June 2023 changes the SNAP Work Requirement for people participating in the program. The documents below are the Work Requirement FAQs, Stakeholder Scripts, and the flyers being sent to SNAP households.

The flyers started reaching active SNAP customers and authorized representatives the week of October 2, 2023. These flyers are translated into the six languages currently authorized in the eligibility system: Urdu, Amharic, Arabic, Vietnamese, Spanish, and English. In addition to that, the VDSS public webpage will have the flyer and FAQs available in a format that allows translations to other languages.

The Virginia Community Action Partnership and the Virginia Office of Economic Opportunity works together to provide all Virginia Community Action Agencies with the training and technical assistance needed to be successful.
