Last July, STEPS was selected by Skookum, a facility management and logistics support company based in Washington, to take part in a program to deliver services to their employees with disabilities in Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina. Skookum was looking for a community action agency on the East Coast to expand their efforts to provide case management, virtual training sessions, and monetary support for employees with disabilities.
STEPS was selected among several community action agencies in Virginia and Maryland because of their 30+ years of successfully supporting people with disabilities, its mission, and its vision aligned with their own dreams of the future. STEPS achieved and surpassed Snookum’s expectations of support for anyone with a disability by ensuring that individuals would be able to maintain self-sustaining employment. By 2023, STEPS expanded to virtually support employees in New Mexico and, in 2024, STEPS’ new employment specialist started work in Washington on multiple military bases throughout the state.
By empowering those with disabilities to work and make self-sustaining income, STEPS is now able to accomplish its vision to positively impact citizens to succeed, families to thrive, and communities to improve throughout the nation.
