Summer Meals for Students Available

With students home for the summer, the need for providing food to families across the Commonwealth increases dramatically. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), also known SUN Meals and SUN Meals To-Go, provides meals to all eligible participants regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability. Meals are provided free of charge and without identification.

The program serves children and teens 18 years and younger in eligible areas. The Summer Meals program is funded by the USDA and run by school districts and local organizations, and sites can be found throughout the community. To find the most convenient location, text “FOOD” or “COMIDA” to 304-304 and type in a zip code to find nearby summer meals sites, along with operating days and times.

Additionally, many Community Action Agencies across Virginia offer food pantries for individuals and families in their region. For a complete list of agencies in the Commonwealth and their contact information, visit https://www.vacap.org/agencies/.
