Virginia Eviction Reduction Pilot Applications Being Accepted

The Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is now accepting applications for the Virginia Eviction Reduction Pilot (VERP) 2025-26.

DHCD will allocate up to $6.1 million over a two-year period to fund nonprofit organizations, local units of government and Planning District Commissions aiming to reduce evictions through systems changes to make eviction rare, their impacts brief, and the experience humane. DHCD will issue one-year (January 1 - December 31, 2025) grants to grantees as a result of a competitive application process. These grants will be renewable based on performance, compliance, and availability of funds for a second year of funding (January 1 - December 31, 2026).

Eligible applicants include Planning District Commissions (PDCs), local units of government, and nonprofit organizations. VERP grantees must incorporate eviction prevention and eviction diversion activities in their program design, including on-site court navigation services. Applicants with strong community partnerships and experience promoting system changes are encouraged to apply.

All applicants are required to attend the How to Apply Webinar prior to submitting their VERP application. At least one representative of the applicant organization is required to attend one of two How to Apply webinars on August 16, 2024, 10am or August 21, 2024, 2pm.

Applications must be submitted by 11:59pm on September 18, 2024, via DHCD's Centralized Application and Management System (CAMS), to be considered.

Only one grantee per locality will be funded. Multiple applications from the same locality are welcome, but we encourage applicants to strategize with local stakeholders on the best entity to apply on behalf of their locality. The webinars will also help applicants learn about other interested parties in their communities.
