Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities
VCIC works to address prejudices, in all forms, in order to improve academic achievement, increase workplace productivity, and enhance local trust. Their mission is to help schools, businesses, and communities to achieve success through inclusion. Since 2006, VCIC increased the number of programs and events delivered annually by 1,500%, and the organization has been recognized locally and nationally for its effectiveness. Their Project Inclusion program has been recognized in the book No COLORS: 100 Ways to Stop Gangs from Taking Away Our Communities as “the best…in the nation for sowing the seeds of non-violence, inclusiveness and understanding in a high school.”
Harvard Implicit Bias Assessment
Project Implicit is a nonprofit organization and international collaboration between researchers who are interested in implicit social cognition - thoughts and feelings outside of conscious awareness and control. The goal of the organization is to educate the public about hidden biases and to provide a “virtual laboratory” for collecting data on the Internet.

The Tri-County Community Action Agency (TCCAA) is focused on empowering individuals and strengthening communities. TCCAA believes in the strengths of all members of the community and looks forward to a time when everyone lives a thriving life. Before joining TCCAA, Petrina was the Senior Manager for the Virginia Employment Commission’s Danville Local Office, working diligently to empower communities through economic and employee development. Her strong background in the social services, education and business have allowed her the ability to empathize with the members of the community while working diligently to effect change on a broad scale. She serves on the Board of Directors for The Halifax Chamber of Commerce, The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research and The ARC of Southside. She is a certified Trainer and has been training in various methodologies for more than 25 years. Petrina attended and completed the Unity in Diversity Academy at the Global Dialogue Foundation under the leadership of Dr. Lenora Billings-Harris.

The Virginia Community Action Partnership and the Virginia Office of Economic Opportunity works together to provide all Virginia Community Action Agencies with the training and technical assistance needed to be successful. We aim to provide training for all levels of staff at an agency and board members.

Annette is a Process Integration Engineer at Samsung Austin Semiconductor. She is graduate of Oscar F. Smith High School in Chesapeake and received her undergraduate degree at Norfolk State University, and her graduate degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech.
Luna Powell, a recent graduate of Warwick High School, joined Project Discovery during her freshman year. Ms. Powell states “Project Discovery has changed me as a person and expanded my horizons. I am genuinely grateful to Project Discovery because, without it, I would have likely lack the essential knowledge about higher education and not be able to meet all the delightful people in the program. Project Discovery helped to become more extroverted and exposed me to new experiences that have led to who I am now”.
